Microturbine Based Cogeneration and Chilled Beams

Sam Cosamano, P.E., LEED AP - President of IPD:Engineering
Sam worked as a mechanical design engineer for Towne Engineering in Utica for over 15 years before coming to Syracuse and starting IPD:Engineering in 2009. IPD:E provides HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Electric and Structural Engineering services for the healthcare, commercial, education and industrial markets. Sam and his staff believe in a life cycle approach to the systems they design and are known for their out of the box thinking and problem solving approach.

Topic #1 (30 min): Microturbine Based Cogeneration.
A few months back, Sam presented this topic at Rome Memorial Hospital’s cogeneration system open house. Rather than being specific to Rome’s installation, this version of the presentation will be more broad brushed and applicable to Hospitals in general. The focus will be on thermally driven systems, their sizing, applications and benefits over large scale electrically driven plants.
Topic #2 (30 min): Chilled Beams.
Sam will explain what Chilled Beams are and how they work. He’ll also discuss where and why he’s been applying them in hospitals, their pros and cons and how they apply to current Hospital code.
